Progress of construction on target: Fiege builds multi-user centre in Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg

Baufortschritt in Gengenbach

40,000 square metres-large facility scheduled for completion in August 2021

Gengenbach/Greven, 04. February 2021 – The extensive excavation work is done, and the first pillars are standing: Construction of Fiege’s new logistics centre in Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg is advancing as planned. Located near the German French border in-between Strasbourg, Freiburg, and Stuttgart, a multi-user centre featuring four warehouse sections will be built on a 73,000 square metres-large plot of land. Next to a three-storey office building, Fiege will run operations for a variety of clients on a logistics space covering 40,000 square metres. One of those clients is a major tyres maker.

The building is 12.5 metres high and supported by a skeleton structure. “If the weather plays along the prefabricated parts made of reinforced concrete will have been set for all four warehouse sections by the end of February”, Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate explains. The façade will be clad in insulation sandwich panels made from sheet metal. At 10.5 metres, the ceiling allows for storage up a maximum height of 9.10 metres. 40 loading gates will be available for onloading and offloading. Work is progressing on schedule. The recruitment of staff has already started, and more job offers are currently in the pipeline.

Thorsten Erny, Mayor of the City of Gengenbach, was also satisfied with the project’s progression: “All departments involved worked successfully hand in hand to jointly advance the project together with Fiege. It is quite impressive that there are only 13 months between the appointment with the notary and the scheduled completion.”

The Greven-based family business is also fulfilling its sustainability goals with the construction of the logistics centre. “Next to full LED lighting, a photovoltaic system, and an electromobility infrastructure we are also planning to grow a mixed orchard on the premises. Moreover, the primary building management system allows for a sustainable, trade-spanning operational management”, Fiege adds. The facility is aiming to achieve the Gold certification standard from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Completion of the logistics property is scheduled for August 2021. Fiege Real Estate has partnered with the architectural firm, Krüger Consult and the general contractor, Bremer AG for this project. The project’s investor is Munich-based LIP Invest.
