New logistics centre in Gengenbach: Fiege and LIP take another multi-user centre into service

  • 40,000 square metres dedicated to logistics near the French-German border
  • second forward funding deal between Fiege and LIP Invest

Gengenbach/Greven/Munich, 2. September 2021 – It has taken just under a year, but the logistics centre is now completed: The Fiege Group is taking its multi-user centre in Gengenbach in the Land of Baden-Württemberg into service. The 73,000-square-metres-large plot of land is located near the border of France and Germany, nestled between Strasbourg, Freiburg and Stuttgart. A three-storey office building plus four warehouse segments have been built here which offer around 40,000 square metres of storage space to a variety of clients, including a major tyres maker. Operations are scheduled to start in October.

The new logistics property in Gengenbach meets the gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). With this project, the Fiege family business from Greven in Germany’s Westphalia region is meeting not only its own growth targets, but also its sustainability goals. “Next to full LED lighting, a photovoltaic system, and an electromobility infrastructure we are also planning to grow a meadow for wildflowers on the premises”, Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate at Fiege says. “Moreover, the primary building management system allows for a sustainable operational management that spans all trades.”

LIP Invest had previously acquired the project development under a forward deal and invested over EUR 50 million into the new building. “The acquisition of the multi-user centre supports a further expansion of our portfolio’s location allocation. The property convinces not only with its locality, but also its quality and cutting-edge architecture. The warehouse segments are easily sub-divided and the many loading bays promote extensive capacities for alternative uses”, says Bodo Hollung, executive partner of LIP Invest.

The Fiege Real Estate business unit partnered with the architectural firm, Krüger Consult and the general contractor, Bremer AG to implement this project. Gengenbach’s Mayor, Thorsten Erny, praised the swift completion of the new warehouse: “It is quite impressive to witness the completion of the entire new warehouse within one year only. We are now thrilled to welcome the Fiege family business here in Gengenbach.”

The multi-user centre in Gengenbach is used by Fiege’s Industry and Tires business unit. Christian Wierling, Managing Director of the business unit at Fiege, explains: “Strategically speaking, Gengenbach is an extremely valuable location for our Tires business unit. It offers clients the possibility to cover Germany’s south, Switzerland, and France even better.” Also, the facility in Gengenbach forms the perfect extension to the Fiege location based in Lahr in the Black Forrest, roughly 30 kilometres away, Wierling adds. “The new multi-user centre in Gengenbach benefits not only our own growth strategy, but especially that of our clients.”
