Fiege to build multi-user facility for its Healthcare unit in Zülpich

New logistics facility with around 54,000 square metres of logistics space to be built in the district of Euskirchen

Zülpich, 3 August 2020. Fiege is building a new logistics centre in Zülpich, North Rhine-Westphalia. Located centrally in the tri-city area of Cologne-Bonn-Aachen, a multi-user centre will be built consisting of 54,000 square metres dedicated to all things logistics comprising a hall, office spaces, as well as recreation rooms. On 3 August 2020 Fiege celebrated the start of construction in the presence of the Transport Minister for the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst; the head of the district authority, Günter Rosenke; the city’s mayor, Ulf Hürtgen and other representatives of the City of Zülpich, as well as LIP Invest, the architectural office Jürgen Schlake, and the general contractor, Goldbeck International. Completion of the logistics property is scheduled for summer 2021. Fiege will itself operate the facility for various clients. The investment for the new project totals around EUR 50 million.

“Construction will be completed in just under a year. By then, Zülpich will have become a new and key location for our growing Healthcare business unit”, Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate stated. “The plot of land in Zülpich was a good match for what we were looking for. It is conveniently located to the A1 and A61 motorways.” From Zülpich, Fiege will be supplying healthcare facilities such as hospitals or specialist retailers of medical products with equipment from a range of pharmaceutical clients Europe-wide.

For the first construction phase, Fiege purchased a 100,000 square metres-large area at the An der Römerallee industrial estate in Zülpich.

“We are excited that Fiege, a leading logistics company in Europe, has chosen Zülpich for this job-intensive large-scale project which Zülpich’s policymakers had already unanimously approved during its council meeting held on 28 November 2019”, the Mayor Ulf Hürtgen emphasises. “It is also gratifying that the company identified the many possibilities which Zülpich has to offer as a business location specifically for additional supply chain activities. For Fiege to take up residence here with its project more than makes up for the originally planned eCommerce warehouse”, Hürtgen continues.

The symbolic turf-cutting ceremony marks the start of a settlement project whose first construction phase will create a minimum 250 additional full-time jobs in Zülpich. The option given to Fiege to purchase the adjacent industrial area gives Zülpich the prospect of this number increasing even to more than 500 over the years to come.
