The family business from Greven in Westphalia is building new offices in the heart of Münster. The move-in is scheduled for 2024. The foundation stone was placed last Thursday.
Münster/ Greven, 19 August 2022 — Things progressed fast at the B Side of Münster’s Stadthafen district: Last Thursday, the logistics company Fiege laid the foundation stone for its new office building where Lehnkering used to be. By 2024, 10,000 square metres of office space is to be built across six floors for around 550 employees of the Greven-based family business. Fiege employs around 23,000 people world-wide and will be celebrating its 150th anniversary next year.
“I am extremely pleased to see the B Side continue to grow”, said Münster’s Head Mayor, Markus Lewe during the laying of the foundation stone. “Fiege is not just another successful enterprise that will locate to the Hafen, but also a family business that has been firmly anchored in the Münsterland region für almost 150 years. And despite its long history, it never stopped thinking forward and being innovative.”
Jens Fiege, CEO of the Fiege Group, explained: “Laying this foundation stone is a very special moment and an important milestone for our company. We have experienced such tremendous growth these past years that we resorted to leasing more and more office space in the vicinity over and again. So we decided to look for a location that would allow us to merge our teams and continue to grow even further. We could not have hoped for a better location than Münster’s Hafen, also in light of wanting to attract new employees. We very much look forward to our new home here at the city’s Kreativkai.”
The new office building does not have an official name just yet. Fiege is currently organising a naming contest which will help to decide on how the new building at the Hafen is to be called once completed. Employee participation is very welcome for this. But most importantly, employees are to have everything they need once the construction project is completed in 2024. Some of the highlights include light, spacious office and conference rooms; in-house catering directly by the waterfront; a large area for staging workshops; a modern auditorium; an underground carpark with charging points for pedelecs as well as EVs plus a large rooftop terrace overlooking the city which will be set to the front of the roof. The opposite side of the roof will accommodate a photovoltaic system which will produce 60,000 kilowatt hours of solar energy each year.
“It is our conviction”, so Felix Fiege, who as a fifth-generation member of the family business has been managing the company in unison with his cousin, Jens Fiege since 2014, “that Münster’s Hafen is perfectly suited to merge our business segments and digital units under one roof and beyond this, to offer our own start-up spin-offs and partner-like start-ups a great workplace environment. Our home and the seat of our company, however, will remain in Greven. But even the location of Münster will become a crucial growth driver for our company in the future.”
