Customers are given insight into contemporary solutions used by Fiege
Hamburg, 3rd July 2018. Optical head-mounted displays, robots and accuracy in processing Big Data – Fiege’s Innovation Day held in Hamburg offered insights into the latest trends in logistics. More than 40 interested listeners came to the customer event held last Friday. Next to the presentations, it was also about heading out onto the floor for some hands-on testing. “We wanted to give our visitors the opportunity to experience innovative solutions live and direct”, says Stefan Küster, who manages the Fiege branch in Hamburg.
Pick-by-Vision and robots in intra-logistics
Benjamin Sommer of the robotics start-up Magazino in Munich demonstrated the order-picking robot, Toru. At the Fiege location in Ibbenbüren, Fiege and Magazino have joined forces to make the perception-controlled order picking robot ready for the market. The robots work alongside humans and handle footwear.
Jens Ritscher gave a talk on the optical head-mounted displays by Picavi. The Fiege employee had been in charge of the Pick-by-vision pilot at the industrial site in Worms and shared his experience during the talk. “Our employees save up to ten per cent of their time”, so Ritscher’s positive conclusion. The display of the smart glasses takes the order picker step by step through the order at the warehouse, with Picavi shaping the information and transmitting it in real time. Visitors in Hamburg had the opportunity to put on the smart glasses and test their use for themselves.
Big Data and automated data analysis
Professor Reiner Kurzhals of Westphalia DataLab in Münster held a paper on the relevance of processing Big Data, and how to best tap into them. Fiege Logistik and a team made up of scientists from Münster’s University of Applied Sciences have formed Westphalia DataLab, which provides automated data analyses as an on-demand service for companies.
Visitor feedback to the presentations was highly positive, said Rouven-Alexander Slabik: “The warm response to our invitation came as a bit of a surprise to us. But it was fun showing our customers the innovative topics handled in the World of Fiege.” Slabik works as a Business Development Manager at Fiege and had organised the event. “It is great that we here at Fiege dedicate so much attention to innovation. You can feel this in every single employee”, says Slabik.
