Laying of foundation stone and reception at the construction site: New logistics centre to be handed over at the end of October

Emmerich am Rhein. The gates at incoming goods have already been installed, the tarmac has settled, and parking spaces have been sectioned: From the outside, Fiege’s new logistics centre in Emmerich am Rhein looks almost ready. The warehouses are to be completed by the end of October and will be handed over on time. The fast progress of construction was cause to celebrate during the laying of the foundation stone: next to partners, project teams and investors, the construction workers from all businesses involved were invited.

“We are extremely satisfied, the work performed here every day is excellent. We wish to say thank you for this”, is how Kai Alfermann, Director Real Estate at Fiege praised the invitees. As the general contractor, Goldbeck ensures the on-time completion of the new logistics facility.

On 32,000 square metres of logistics space, Fiege will oversee operations for Katjes in Emmerich while working at the home of the sweets manufacturer. Katjes Fassin GmbH + Co. KG is headquartered in Emmerich am Rhein and produces mainly liquorice and fruit gums. “Starting January, first products from the client will move here”, says Markus Pohle who will be in charge of the branch. “Katjes will be our key account at the location but we created Emmerich as a multi-user centre and will be running operations for multiple clients under a single roof.” Initially 75 people will be working at Fiege in Emmerich.

Fiege has been Katjes’ logistics partner for 27 years. In the past, Fiege stored the sweet products from Katjes’ factories based in Emmerich, Remshalden and Potsdam at its warehouse in Bocholt. Storage capacities there were exhausted which is why the new centre in Emmerich will become the new central facility for Katjes. “We will supply the retail trade from here, and organise transportation for the whole of Germany and abroad”, added Markus Pohle. Fiege will continue to perform different value-added services such as display set-up and packaging.
